Worried Parent

June 3rd 06

It’s intensely hot. Has been for ages. Tom said I should lash water into the 5 year old whitethorn that was uprooted the final day of April and stripped of its rooted clay. Mary said a dash of Rescue Remedy wouldn’t go amiss either. Hope I’m not too late. It looks terrible beside its companions, their blossoms just turning.

The jackdaws seem to have flown but there’s been a lot of coaxing and cajoling at high volume from mother and father going on as there seems to be a single occupant that is refusing to come out. I’m worried that he may be stuck somewhere in the back – wedged in and unable to come out due to the poor design of my bird box. I was relieved today to see him – a fine strong specimen – come out to the front of the nest, have a long argument with his father and sulk back inside again.
