Reflections on Alternative Future Conference

Enough = sufficient, adequate, ample, abundant; as much as you need, as much as is necessary.
The idea of ‘Enough’ is alien to modern society. We never seem to have enough or at least to be able to say ‘I have enough’. A good phrase to spread might be ‘I HAVE ENOUGH’

Other = different or distinct from the one already mentioned, different in nature or kind.
‘Other’ – perhaps a word that sets us apart, when our real struggle is to live as ‘part of’ and not ‘separated from’ the community of life with which we share Earth. Every living being on Earth has enough for life – Gaia has seen to that. Yet we know, only too well, that our own species’ wanton greed is threatening that and so GSLT is working to protect and conserve land for the sake of present and future generations of all species.

Alternative Future Conference was supportive, inspiring and very encouraging. We feel challenged by the questions that we were asked re the way forward for Green Sod Land Trust and for that we are grateful.

Alternative Future Conference, Swords, Co. Dublin.
Sheila Gallagher and Melissa Griffith of the Green Sod Land Trust attended a conference in Swords, Co. Dublin on Saturday 4th April entitled Alternative Future. A wide cross-section of groups and organisations were represented at the meeting.
It can be hard sometimes to pinpoint what exactly comes out of such days but it is certainly true to say that the very idea of trying to push forward in a new way by bringing us all together – by creating the space to reflect, to be challenged and to think is in itself moving forward.
